Tuesday Lunchtime's Class

Welcome back to our insightful blog, where we embark on a journey through the intricate world of Tai Chi. Each week, we delve into the subtleties of the practice, uncovering hidden gems that enhance our understanding and elevate our skills. Join us as we explore the artistry of movement and delve into the essence of Tai Chi.

In our latest session, we immersed ourselves in the Up-Down/Open-Close exercise, focusing on the harmonious alignment of our ankle, knee, and hip joints. By fine-tuning these connections, we facilitate the smooth flow of energy along the central axis of our body, allowing it to move freely without deviation from the crown to the perineum. This attention to detail ensures a clear and unobstructed pathway for our vital energy.

We also delved into Loosening Exercise 1, emphasising the sequential connection of our shoulder blades, elbows, wrists, palms, and fingertips. Through this mindful progression, we cultivated a sense of connectivity, maintaining a continuous flow of energy throughout our entire being. The sinking process became a powerful tool in this exercise, grounding us and deepening our connection with each movement.

Our exploration continued with a focus on the "Preparation of the Taiji Form." We embraced the concept of softening our feet, allowing ourselves to be drawn into position effortlessly. This subtle adjustment served as a foundation for stability and rootedness, preventing the harsh impact of brute force or relaxed energy from affecting us.

Throughout our practice, we discovered the significance of maintaining an open gaze. Closing our eyes can cause our spirit to descend and our energy to stagnate, leading to fatigue. By keeping our eyes open and alert, we remain connected to the present moment, allowing our energy to flow smoothly.

As we delved deeper into the practice, we explored the metaphor of drawing and releasing a bow. With each sinking and releasing movement, we embodied the actions of a bow and arrow. Drawing down and sinking represented the flexion of the bow, while releasing symbolised the extension. This embodied sensation enhanced our understanding of the movements, transcending the physical realm and tapping into the artistry of Tai Chi.

Form practice took us through the graceful transition from "Ward Off Right" to "Ward Off Left," where we meticulously examined the details of Section 2, specifically the beginning of Embrace Tiger, Return to Mountain. These postures served as gateways to deeper levels of understanding, unveiling the beauty and precision within the Tai Chi form.

Join us next week as we continue to unravel the intricate tapestry of Tai Chi, exploring new facets of the practice that will enhance your journey. Remember to subscribe to our blog for weekly updates, as we guide you towards a deeper appreciation and mastery of this ancient art. Together, let us embrace the flowing movements and unlock the potential that lies within.

Until then, keep practicing, keep exploring, and embrace the harmonious rhythm of Tai Chi in your life.
